Arun Patel came to Corning, New York, from a small village in Gujarat, India, when he was 16 years old. After graduating from college in 1986, he acquired a hotel and began to build a business. Today, Visions Hotels has 50 hotels in its management portfolio. Visions Hotels has received many industry awards from hotel franchisers for its operational success. But the greatest rewards Patel holds dear are the smiles on the faces of children who attend schools in India that his nonprofit supports. Patel established Tiny Smiling Faces in 2012 as a U.S.-based organization that funds improvements in public schools in West India. The program has lifted hundreds of families out of poverty and has given children health and hope for tomorrow. This session of Happy To Be Of Service, features Patel’s story of giving back. It’s part of a special series by Long Live Lodging that spotlights hospitality companies and people making a difference in their communities or around the world.
